On May 20, 2026, the final event of the just better DATA project took place at AUMOVIO’s premises in Schwalbach, Taunus. Around 80 participants gathered to review the results of the past three years, exchange ideas, and explore future perspectives.
A Success Story: jbDATA and the Smart Data Loop
Over the course of three years, jbDATA developed the Smart Data Loop, a systematic and efficient approach for providing high-quality data for the development, testing, and validation of modern perception systems. The focus was on AI-based applications and solutions for automated driving.
Interactive Formats and Live Demonstrations
he program was designed to reflect the full scope of the project. It covered everything from edge hardware and AI-driven data selection to the targeted use of synthetic data and the implementation of a closed data loop. At the same time, it highlighted the close integration of research and industrial application.
One of the highlights of the event was the interactive sessions, which gave participants ample opportunity for discussion, exchange, and hands-on insights. Live demonstrations showed how the Smart Data Loop can work in practice—from in-vehicle hardware integration to cloud-based data processing. These sessions made complex concepts tangible and demonstrated concrete application scenarios.
The program was complemented by a poster exhibition, where project experts presented additional results and engaged in in-depth discussions with interested participants. A series of presentations showcased key project outcomes, while deep-dive sessions provided more detailed technical insights.
From Data Sharing to Shared Intelligence
A key highlight was the panel discussion featuring experts from start-ups, industry, and research. The panel explored the broader data ecosystem, discussed related initiatives and stakeholders, and, in particular, examined the potential of jbDATA’s results and the dataset to be released.
A central success factor of jbDATA was the close collaboration within a strong network of industry and research partners. The approaches developed—especially the Smart Data Loop—provide a solid foundation for the next generation of end-to-end, data-driven vehicle systems.
One of the project’s main outcomes is the release of the jbDATA dataset. Designed as a high-quality, real-world dataset, it aims to support the continued development of data-driven applications—especially in AI and automated driving—and will be made available to the wider community. In addition, a comprehensive white paper is planned for publication.
EICT closely supported and guided the project over the full three-year period. In addition to project management, EICT was fully responsible for communicating and disseminating the project results. This also included the planning, design, organization, and execution of the final event. From technical equipment and venue setup to registration, catering, and on-site coordination—EICT managed every aspect to ensure a successful event.
