RobustSENSE kick-off in Wiesbaden
This kick-off meeting on August 20th, 2015 marks the start of the technical work in the RobustSENSE project. 13 European partners from 5 different countries develop a sensor platform that provides environment information “robust” enough for automated or autonomous driving. Today’s driver assistance systems stop working under adverse weather conditions due to reduced sensor information quality. RobustSENSE wants to change that.
The project makes sensing systems able to operate better by combining several independent subsystems to an integrated and comprehensive solution. Consequently, RobustSENSE will contribute to enhanced road safety with a more reliable, secure and trustable sensing system:
- reliable even in harsh environmental conditions (like sun-flare, rain and snow)
- secure by self-diagnosis, adaptation and robustness,
- trustable on every level of assistance and automation systems.
The RobustSENSE platform will be realized in a prototype. Furthermore, it will be integrated in a number of demonstration vehicles providing automated driving functions. The project is coordinated by DAIMLER AG and lasts from June, 2015 to May, 2018. EICT is responsible for the project management and leads the dissemination and exploitation activities. The overall project is budgeted with €8.6 million. Thereof, €3.3 million are co-funded by the European Union under the H2020-ECSEL programme.
